The Balvenie 2021 The Creation Of A Classic Single Malt Scotch Whisky tells the story of David C. Stewart crafting the world's first original cask-finished single malt. The method of cask finishing was first introduced in the 1980s by Stewart after he discovered whisky finished in Oloroso sherry casks added depth and layers of flavor well beyond the expected outcome. The very first cask-finished single malt, The Balvenie Classic, was launched in 1983 off this discovery. The Balvenie The Creation of a Classic Single Malt Scotch pays tribute to this innovative methodology and was released in 2021 as a part of the Balvenie's highly prized Stories whisky range. Matured first in traditional American oak, this legacy Scotch is finished in carefully curated Oloroso sherry casks. The nose opens with lush drafts of vanilla and ginger, herbs, and cloves over a complex and layered palate of syrup, sweet toffee brittle candies, and simmering oatmeal seasoned with spice.
